Opinion: Two things I like about Maoridom is that they know who they are, and their social system through tribal connections. This is where I feel that our society is breaking down. By the policies being put in place by this government of centralizing everything in Wellington. Our local input is being eroded.
The vibrancy in SIT that was apparent when I moved to Southland seems to have dropped off to some degree. It looks just like any other school. It had its own unique flavor that was Southland. As this government moves to centralize 3 Waters, health, education, TV RADIO we lose some of our social connection that comes from having control over what`s happening in our community.
Years ago, the churches were full, and we made many of our social connections there. But that has changed, and we do our socializing in many different ways. McDonald`s is a good example. When in lockdown it wasn`t just the food that I missed but going and sitting down among other people was part of the experience.
Centralization is not the way to go. THREE WATERS IS WRONG IN EVERY WAY
We need to retain our society, culture, heritage and social connections with each other. It’s good for our mental health.
